Vivo Nex Dual Display Edition launches with 2 screens, 10GB RAM and Lunar Ring

Vivo has been trying to push boundaries for innovation in the smartphone segment for a while with the Apex concept shown last year and the commercially available Nex for this year. Now, Vivo has unveiled the second generation of the handset with a big twist -using two displays to achieve a perfect no-notch fullscreen display. Vivo is calling the phone Nex Dual Display Edition.

The Nex Dual Display Edition is using the same concept that Nubia recently used on their flagship — use two displays to get rid of the front camera. The Nex Dual Display Edition has a 6.4-inch fullscreen AMOLED display at the front that renders pictures at a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels, while the secondary display at the rear has a Full HD 5.5-inch AMOLED panel with thick bezels to the sides. The rear also houses a set of three cameras on the top – 12-megapixel primary sensor alongside a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The third sensor is primarily a Time-of-Flight (TOF) module housing an F1.3 lens that is only utilized for face unlock as well as 3D images.

Users will need to use both sides of the phone in order to gel well with the phone. When the user wants a full-screen viewing experience, the front display with no bezels is easily the best bet. When the camera needs to be used, users will need to flip the phone around and use the rear cameras for taking pictures. The rear of the phone also needs to be used when the 3D face unlock feature needs to be used. However, Vivo says that users can use the phone easily with both the displays.

Both the displays feature an in-display fingerprint sensor, which works in combination with the 3D face unlock feature. The Lunar Ring illuminates when notifications come up. The Lunar Ring also glows when the rear camera is used for taking selfies.

Rest of the Vivo Nex Dual Display Edition is as well equipped as any other flagship smartphone, if now better, from 2018. There’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset paired along with 10GB of RAM and 128GB storage. A 3500mAh battery acts as the power source with a 10V fast charging. Vivo has also retained the 3.5mm headphone jack, in case you were wondering.
